Pure and Ultra-pure (deionised) water cooling and conditioning

As we rarely make the exact same piece of equipment twice (our machines tend to be built around a client’s specification), please scroll down and click on ‘Case Studies’ to see some of our previous projects and the type and variety of equipment that we can provide.

Cooling processes with deionised water is a highly effective method for thermal management in systems where non-conductive cooling media and cleanliness are critical. Unlike regular water, deionised water has had its mineral ions – such as calcium, sodium, and chloride – removed, making it an effective insulator, rather than a conductor, therefore, it can be used for high voltage electrical applications and is less likely to cause corrosion or scale buildup. This level of purity ensures that cooling circuits remain clean and efficient, reducing maintenance and extending equipment life.

The primary reason for using deionised water is its excellent heat transfer properties combined with electrical insulation, which is essential for cooling sensitive electronics, high-voltage components, and advanced industrial machinery. It prevents short circuits and contamination, making it ideal for environments where reliability is paramount.

Applications include cooling power electronics, such as those found STATCOMs (Static Valve Compensators), HVDC (High-voltage, Direct Current) and Thyristor switches, plus a multitude of other sectors, such as laser systems, medical imaging equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, and renewable energy systems, such as wind turbines and solar inverters. In research and aerospace sectors, deionised water cooling often supports high-performance systems where even minor impurities could compromise results. By delivering superior thermal control without introducing conductive risks, deionised water cooling is a cornerstone of modern engineering solutions for precision and safety.

It is noteworthy that we can also provide conditioning-only systems (as we have done for cyclotrons or RF equipment), where the client has their own chiller/chilled water or even incorporate a deionising circuit into a bespoke, portable/stand-alone chiller.
