Vacuum insulated pipework (SIVL)
As we rarely make the exact same piece of equipment twice (our machines tend to be built around a client’s specification), please scroll down and click on ‘Case Studies’ to see some of our previous projects and the type and variety of equipment that we can provide.
Vacuum insulated pipework —sometimes, and rather confusingly, also known as vacuum-jacketed or VJ piping, cryogenic transfer lines, SIVL (super-insulated vacuum lines) or vacuum-insulated tubing – is essential for transporting a wide variety of cryogenic liquids and gases such as liquid nitrogen, helium, or hydrogen at ultra-low temperatures. These systems use a vacuum layer (the annular gap between the inner flow pipe and the external jacket), plus high-performance insulation and special conditioning processes to minimize heat ingress, ensuring reduced boil-off losses during transfer.
GRE Ltd specializes in designing and manufacturing bespoke vacuum-insulated pipework and distribution systems that integrate seamlessly into client facilities. Our modular solutions deliver exceptional thermal efficiency and reliability for demanding applications where wastage through boil-off can costs thousands of pounds every day.
We have engineered advanced cryogenic transfer systems for world-class projects and institutions, including Diamond Light Source, Central Laser Facility, Tokamak Energy, RAL Space European XFEL, supporting cutting-edge research and energy innovation. GRE’s expertise also extends to pharmaceutical and biomedical storage, food processing environments, R & D, and many other sectors requiring safe and efficient transfer and distribution of cryogens.
By combining innovative design, robust engineering and clever manufacturing, GRE ensures every system meets stringent safety and performance standards. Whatever the purpose, our vacuum-insulated solutions provide efficient, dependable cryogenic transfer.
